LPAC Endorses Madeya, Simmons and Thornbury

Washington, D.C. –Today, LPAC, the nation’s only organization dedicated to advancing the political representation of LGBTQ+ women candidates, endorsed three out LGBTQ+ women and nonbinary candidates for local offices. 

Gina Madeya is an out bisexual woman currently serving as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Kirkland, WA and Federal Political Coordinator for U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell. She is currently running for Kirkland City Council. Denise Simmons is running for re-election to the Cambridge City Council in Massachusetts. She is currently serving her 12th term on the City Council, and her third term as Mayor. She was the first out Black lesbian mayor in the country. Meg Thornbury is a former teacher and mental health therapist now running for Longmont City Council in Colorado.

“LPAC-endorsed leaders consistently show up for their communities, and that’s especially true for this month’s endorsed candidates,” said Janelle Perez, Executive Director of LPAC. “Gina Madeya, Denise Simmons and Meg Thornbury each have dedicated themselves to understanding what everyday people in their cities need, and to serving those needs while also being proudly and authentically themselves.”

Washington

  • Gina Madeya (she/her), Kirkland City Council, WA (Position 3)

Colorado 

  • Meg Thornbury (she/they), Longmont City Council, CO (Ward 2)

Massachusetts 

  • Denise Simmons (she/her), Cambridge City Council, MA
