LPAC Celebrates Gina Ortiz Jones' Victory in San Antonio

June 8, 2025 — Today, LPAC, the nation’s only organization dedicated to advancing the political representation of LGBTQ+ women and nonbinary candidates, celebrated the victory of endorsed candidate Gina Ortiz Jones in her run for Mayor of San Antonio, the seventh largest city in the country.

“Throughout her career, we have witnessed Gina Ortiz Jones as a trailblazer -- she was the first woman of color and the first out lesbian to serve as Under Secretary of the Air Force -- and now she will become the first Asian-American woman mayor of a major city in Texas, and the first LGBTQ+ mayor of San Antonio,” said Janelle Perez, Executive Director of LPAC. “Especially in a time when so many voices are telling LGBTQ+ people we don't matter, it is lifesaving to have a voice like Gina's in a deep red state saying unequivocally that we don't just matter -- we deserve to thrive. That is leadership, and we look forward to seeing Gina shine in this new leadership role.”

When she was endorsed by LPAC, Gina said, "I'm thankful for LPAC's early support. In the face of efforts to unsee our community, I look forward to serving everyone in San Antonio with the respect and dignity we all deserve."
