LPAC announces 9 June endorsements for the 2020 cycle

At Home, U.S. (June 25, 2020) –  LPAC, the only organization dedicated to building LGBTQ women’s political power, announces its updated slate of 2020 endorsements, an impressive group of LGBTQ women running for national and state-level seats. See our full list of current endorsees here.

The new endorsed candidates are:

Kimberly Walker (US House, FL-12)
State Rep. Sonya Jaquez Lewis (CO State Senate)

“It’s increasingly crucial to elect lawmakers who will stand for social justice values,” said Stephanie Sandberg, LPAC’s executive director. “This is a core requirement to earn LPAC’s endorsement, which means voters can trust that LPAC candidates will uphold them.”

For the US House

Kimberly Walker (US House, FL-12)

Kimberly Walker is a Democrat challenging the incumbent Republican, Gus Bilirakis. She does not have an opponent in the Democratic primary. She is an IT administrator and Air Force Veteran and has served in the Florida Air National Guard. Walker’s campaign is focusing on affordable healthcare, lowering the cost of prescription drugs, and income inequality.

For state-level seats 

State Rep. Sonya Jaquez Lewis (CO State Senate)

Sonya Jaquez Lewis is currently a member of the Colorado State House of Representatives, first elected in 2018 with 73% of the vote. She is a longtime activist, serving for a number of years on the Boulder County Board of Health and as a DNC delegate for Colorado. She is a pharmacist and owns a small business that consults on clinical trials. Her priorities are affordable healthcare, education, workplace safety, and gun and domestic violence. 

Lyn Franks (AK State House)

Franks is an educator in Anchorage and an adjunct professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage. She previously ran for this seat in 2018, losing to the incumbent by just 241 votes. She was inspired to become politically active after participating in the local Women’s March following the 2016 elections. Her priorities are public safety and addressing domestic violence, funding education, and protecting the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend. 

State Rep. Brianna Titone (CO State House)

Brianna Titone is running for re-election to the Colorado House of Representatives for the 27th District. She was first elected in 2018, flipping a Republican seat. She is one of four trans state legislators in the U.S. Outside of politics she is a trained geologist. Titone’s priorities are lowering the cost of healthcare and ensuring access for LGBTQ and trans people, education funding, and protecting the environment. 

State Rep. Jennifer Webb (FL State House)

Jennifer Webb is running for re-election to the Florida House of Representatives for the 69th district. She was first elected in 2018, when she received LPAC’s endorsement and flipped a GOP seat. She was the first out lesbian elected to the State Legislature in Florida. Her priorities are protecting waterways and drinking water, helping local businesses, investing in healthcare and mental health and substance abuse prevention, and improving education access. 

Maggie Trevor (IL State House)

Maggie Trevor is the Democratic nominee for the Illinois House of Representatives in the 54th district. She previously ran in 2018, when she was defeated by the Republican incumbent by just 43 votes. She holds a PhD in political science and owns her own research firm. Trevor’s priorities are fighting for affordable and accessible healthcare, education, and finding ways to raise revenue without an over-reliance of property taxes. 

Gia Drew (ME State House)

Gia Drew is running for election to the Maine House of Representatives for the 9th district. She is the program director at Equality Maine, where she oversees education, rural outreach, and youth programming. She previously was a high school teacher and coach for 20 years. Drew’s priorities are improving access to behavioral and mental health care, addressing sexual assault and domestic violence, and protecting LGBTQ rights. 

Madeline Eden (TX State House) 

Madeline Eden is the Democratic nominee to the Texas House of Representatives for the 17th district. She ran for Congress in 2018, placing 4th in the Democratic primary. She has owned a number of IT companies, and started a technology nonprofit that helps people register to vote. Eden’s priorities are increasing rural access to healthcare, decriminalizing marijuana, and improving rural internet access. 

State Rep. Jessica González (TX State House)

Jessica González is running for re-election to the Texas House of Representatives in the 104th district. She is an attorney who was first elected in 2018 after defeating a 26-year conservative Democratic incumbent in the primary. González’s priorities are passing comprehensive nondiscrimination legislation, cannabis reform, and tackling human trafficking and providing victim services.
