LPAC Endorses Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot for Re-election

Washington, DC (June 29, 2022) — LPAC, the national political organization dedicated to electing more LGBTQ women to public office, announced today it has endorsed Lori Lightfoot as she seeks re-election as Mayor of Chicago.

LPAC is committed to building diverse political representation by increasing the number of LGBTQ+ women in elected office. LPAC endorses and invests in LGBTQ+ women up and down the ballot who champion the organization's core values of women's rights, LGBTQ+ equality, and social justice.

Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot was elected as the 56th Mayor of Chicago in 2019, becoming the first LGBTQ person and first woman of color to hold the office. Following her historic election, Mayor Lightfoot has undertaken an ambitious agenda of expanding opportunity and inclusive economic growth across Chicago’s neighborhoods and communities. She has led the city through the unprecedented challenges of a global pandemic with tough, fair leadership – all while keeping campaign promises that prioritize making Chicago safer, fairer and more equitable for all.

“When I think of the Black LGBTQ leaders serving in office like Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, I am filled with pride about the work LPAC has done to uplift women and support their campaigns,” said LPAC Executive Director Lisa Turner. “We were the first national organization and LGBTQ organization to endorse Mayor Lightfoot in 2019, and we are proud to be the first again as she seeks re-election. LPAC’s unwavering support shows our commitment to not solely electing more LGBTQ women to office, but to elect LGBTQ women who represent the full diversity of our community.”

“At this pivotal time in our nation’s history, I’m honored to receive the LPAC endorsement for my reelection campaign,” said Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot. “I don’t look or sound like any other mayor Chicago has had before and I’ve had to fight to get a seat at the table. And, like so many in our city, I’ve had to fight to have my voice heard. LPAC has been a champion for my administration and for those who are fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, women’s equality, and social justice. I couldn’t be prouder to have LPAC leading the fight alongside us.”
