Ginny Deerin

Ginny Deerin ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Charleston, SC, in 2015.

Currently a major gifts officer at the International African American Museum, Deerin is widely known in Charleston for founding WINGS for Kids, an after-school program that incorporates social and emotional learning. It has become nationally recognized as one of the most effective youth programs in the country.

Before WINGS, Deerin’s professional life was divided into 10 years of working in marketing and 10 years in fundraising.  During these 20 years, she provided leadership and assistance to dozens of political campaigns – from statewide to local. She worked for Rawle-Murdy Associates, a full service marketing company in Charleston; when she left she was Vice President of the firm. She was long-serving Mayor Joseph Riley’s campaign manager prior to running for the role herself.

Deerin, who is openly bisexual, lives in Charleston. She has a daughter, a son, daughter-in-law and two grandsons.
