Dr. Dawn M. Adams is serving her first term in the Virginia House of Delegates representing the 68th District. She was the first openly LGBTQ woman to hold the role. She is running for re-election in 2019.
Prior to serving as Delegate, Delegate Adams has dedicated her career to serving her community, solving problems, and improving lives. She has been a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, access to care researcher, health advocate and most recently, the director for the Office of Integrated Health for the state’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.
Her profession led to her activism. She pushed for the state’s Medicaid expansion during the 2014 session, which led her to author a proposal for a Health Policy Fellowship for nurses, currently available to nurses who attend graduate programs within Virginia. It was a logical next step to run for office. She won by a very slim margin and her re-election is crucial to flipping the Virginia House.
Adams lives with her long-term partner, Maggie.
