Cynthia Thornton

Cynthia Thornton is a Democrat running for election to the Michigan House of Representatives’s 7th district.

Thornton is a longtime state employee, currently with the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. She is a labor activist and has previously served as a union steward. She is a precinct delegate, member of the board of the Michigan AFL-CIO, and president of Pride at Work Michigan.

Thornton’s priorities are to expand the Elliot-Larsen Civil Rights Act to include sexual orientation and gender identity and expression, increase the participation and visibility of LGBTQ people of color in politics, and rescind “right to work” legislation.
