Jolanda Jones

 

 

Jolanda Jones is a Democrat running for re-election to the Texas House of Representatives. She is the first out LGBTQ Black woman elected to the Texas legislature.

Jones was first elected to the State House in 2022, winning an open seat with 54 percent of the vote. She is the first Black, openly LGBTQ woman to serve in the Texas State House. Jones is a former at-large member of the Houston City Council (2008-2011) and Houston Independent School District Board (2015-2019).

Jones’ priority issues are health care, affordable housing, criminal justice reform, public education and voting rights. She is particularly focused on expanding Medicaid and expanding access to affordable housing.
