Dina Nina Martinez-Rutherford
Dina Nina Martinez-Rutherford is running for a an open seat on the Madison Common Council. She would be the only openly transgender woman to serve in elected office in Dane County.
Martinez-Rutherford is a comedian and entrepreneur. She opened a women-focused comedy club in Madison seven years ago. She decided to run for office after the Club Q shooting late last year. She is one of just two candidates in the race.
Her priorities are expanding access to affordable housing, improving mental health services, and providing representation to LGBTQ and transgender people in Madison. She has been endorsed by the Victory Fund, Fair Wisconsin, Dane Dems, South Central Federation of Labor AFL-CIO, AFSCME, and numerous elected officials and community members.
