Michael Michaud

Michael Michaud ran for governor of Maine in 2014 and lost to incumbent Paul LePage, partly because an independent candidate split the vote.

Prior to running for governor, Michaud represented Maine’s Second Congressional District in the US House from 2003 to 2015. He served in the state house from 1980-1994 and the state senate from 1994-2003. While serving in state politics, he spent three decades working at the Great Northern Paper Company.

Michaud came out as LGBT+ in 2013, making him the first gay congressman to represent Maine in the House.

He is currently a member of the East Millinocket (population 1,700) Board of Selectmen.
